Ansel Cridland, frontman of Jamaican reggae group The Meditations (and previously "The Linkers"). He also sang with Bob Marley, including providing 'harmony vocals' on Exodus, which was one of Bob Marley's best-known albums in the UK and his first to get into the top ten here.

Charles (Chas) Cridland, born 1803, was convicted for stealing a hankerchief (value 6s - about 30p or 50 cents) at the Old Bailey, on Wednesday 12th April 1820. He was transported to the colonies (Sydney) for life. He was aged 17. He recieved a full pardon from the king in 1837 and was subsequently given a land grant. He married Elizabeth Whelan on the 25th September 1825.
